Joey Machin

Biography

Chamber Musician and Soloist

Joey Machin is a violinist from Toronto, Canada. As an avid chamber musician, he has performed in concerts and competitions in duo, piano trio, and string quartet. Following two recital rounds performed with his duo partner, he was awarded first prize in the 2025-2026 Golden Violin Award Competition, one of Canada’s largest privately-funded music awards. He is currently exploring the piano trio repertoire with Ottica Trio, and along with presenting recitals throughout the year in the Lakeshore Chamber Music Society and McGill chamber music series, they competed in the 2026 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Before forming the trio, his string quartet, Horatio, won the 2024 McGill Chamber Music Competition and was selected as a finalist in the 2024 Lyon International Chamber Music Competition.

As a soloist, Joey performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor with North York Concert Orchestra and the Hart House Orchestra. In 2025, he performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major in the finals of the McGill Romantic Concerto Competition, having previously played it with McGill’s Beethoven Orchestra.
